Chemical Composition
A572 Grade 55 typically contains ≤0.23% carbon to maintain weldability, with manganese in the 0.80–1.50% range to support strength and toughness. Silicon is added in moderate amounts for deoxidation, while phosphorus and sulfur are strictly limited to ensure clean steel quality. Small additions of vanadium, niobium, or titanium may be used to refine grain structure and enhance strength without compromising ductility.
Mechanical Properties
The steel provides a minimum yield strength of 380 MPa and a tensile strength range of 485–620 MPa, depending on plate thickness. Elongation values typically exceed 18%, offering reliable forming performance for bending, welding, and fabrication. Its mechanical stability makes it suitable for both static and dynamic loading conditions in structural applications.
