ASTM A572 Grade 60 High‑Strength Low‑Alloy Steel Plate for Structural Construction and Heavy Engineering
Chemical Composition
A572 Grade 60 features controlled carbon content to maintain weldability, with manganese and silicon added to support strength and toughness. Micro‑alloying elements such as columbium/niobium and vanadium refine grain structure and improve mechanical consistency. Impurities like phosphorus and sulfur are strictly limited to ensure clean steel quality and reduce the risk of cracking during welding or forming.
Mechanical Properties
The steel provides a minimum yield strength of 415 MPa and a tensile strength typically between 485–620 MPa, depending on thickness. A572 Grade 60 maintains stable toughness and uniform mechanical behavior across thick sections, supporting large welded structures and heavy‑duty engineering components. Its high strength-to-weight ratio makes it suitable for structural designs requiring improved efficiency and reduced material mass.
Available Size Range
A572 Grade 60 plates are supplied in thicknesses from 3 mm to 150 mm, widths from 1220 mm to 4200 mm, and lengths up to 18 meters, supporting a wide range of construction and fabrication requirements.
