Corten atmospheric corrosion-resistant high-strength steel
Corten steel, also known as Corten atmospheric corrosion-resistant high-strength steel or low-alloy high-strength steel, is often called Corten steel in our country. This kind of steel has extremely strong resistance to atmospheric corrosion, and its corrosion resistance is 4 to 8 times that of ordinary steel materials. At the same time, Corten steel also has high tensile strength
The chemical composition of Corten steel mainly includes carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, nickel and other elements. Each of these elements plays an important role in steel. Carbon is a key element affecting the strength and toughness of steel, while silicon and manganese contribute to solid solution strengthening of steel. Phosphorus and sulfur are considered harmful elements in some cases and their content should be reduced as much as possible during the manufacturing process. Alloying elements such as chromium and nickel can increase the corrosion resistance of steel, which is an important reason why Corten steel can resist atmospheric corrosion.
The production method of Corten steel mainly involves a series of complex process steps. First, preliminary metal smelting is performed through electric furnace smelting, followed by refining treatment using an LF/VD furnace to further remove impurities and improve the purity of the metal. Next, the casting process is carried out, and the refined molten metal is poured into the mold and cooled to form a steel ingot. Afterwards, the steel ingot is cleaned to remove surface oxides and impurities. After cleaning, the steel ingot is sent to the heating furnace for heating to reach the appropriate temperature for rolling. Rolling is a key step in the production process. The heated steel ingot is rolled multiple times through a rolling mill to gradually unfold it into a steel plate. After rolling is completed, the steel plate goes through finishing processes, including straightening, cutting edges, etc., to make its size and shape conform to standards. Subsequently, the steel plates are cut and sampled, and performance inspections are performed to ensure that their quality meets relevant standards and requirements. Finally, the steel plates that pass the inspection will be sent to the warehouse for storage, waiting for further processing or use.
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, has a series of unique characteristics.
1. Excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion. When exposed to the atmosphere, Corten steel forms a stable layer of rust on its surface. This property makes Corten steel particularly popular in pidges, vehicles, towers and other structures that are exposed to the outdoors for long periods of time.
2. Has excellent mechanical properties. It has properties such as strength, plasticity, and molding, and can be processed and manufactured under various process conditions. This enables Corten steel to meet the needs of a variety of complex structures and designs, such as decorative designs and horticultural raw materials.
3. Has good welding performance. During the manufacturing process, Corten steel can be connected through welding methods such as manual welding and submerged arc welding, which makes its use in large structures and projects more convenient and flexible.
Corten steel is widely used in many fields. In the construction field, Corten steel is widely used in building exterior walls, roofs, pidges, building facades and landscape design. In the field of transportation, it is widely used in trains, trucks, containers and ship manufacturing. Corten steel is used to manufacture various engineering facilities, such as pidges, towers, steel structures, etc.
