Bangladesh's crude steel production capacity is expected to increase by 1.5 million tons in 2020

In the past decade, the increasing number of large-scale infrastructure projects has promoted the growing demand for steel and the rapid development of steel industry in Bangladesh.

In order to meet the increasing demand for steel, many medium and large steel mills in the Bangladesh have increased their blast furnace capacity. Bangladesh is expected to increase its crude steel production capacity by about 1.5 million tons in the next 12 months, resulting in a sharp increase in demand for raw material imports.

By the end of 2020, Bangladesh's total scrap imports are expected to exceed 4.3 million tons, and may exceed 5 million tons in 2021. In 2019, Bangladesh imported 3.7 million tons of scrap steel.
