Cumulative U.S. steel imports from January to February this year fell 21.3% year-on-year
The latest data released by the US Bureau of Statistics shows that as of February 2020, the cumulative steel imports in the United States have fallen sharply compared to the previous year.
According to data provided by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the United States imported a total of 4.655 million net tons of steel in the first two months of 2020, of which finished steel was 2.992 million net tons. Compared with the same period in 2019, the cumulative imports of steel and finished steel products fell by 21.3% and 28.7%, respectively. In terms of varieties, the types of steel products that have increased significantly in the first two months are steel tubes for mechanical structures, up 12% year-on-year.
In February 2020, the steel imports and finished steel imports were 1.505 million net tons and 1.344 million net tons, respectively, a month-on-month decrease of 52.2% and 18.4%. Compared with January 2020, the import volume of heavy structural steel profiles and tin plate has increased by 57% and 15%.
