Japan's steel exports fall for the seventh consecutive year in 2020

In 2020, Japan's steel exports totaled 32.14 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%, the seventh consecutive year of decline. Among them, the export volume of ordinary steel was 20.93 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 5.9%, the fifth consecutive year of decline.

In terms of export destinations, in 2020, Japan exported 5.86 million tons of steel to China, an increase of 14.5% over the same period last year, the first increase in three years; 4.81 million tons of steel to South Korea, a decrease of 11.0% over the same period last year, the first decrease in two years; 3.81 million tons to Thailand, a decrease of 26.5% over the same period last year; 2.45 million tons to Taiwan, an increase of 8.5% over the same period last year, the first increase in three years; Exports to the U.S. were 890000 tons, down 30.5% year on year, for the sixth consecutive year.
