Japan's steel import and export declined year on year in October
According to data released by Japan Iron and Steel Union recently, Japan exported 2.866 million tons of steel in October, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%; and imported 720000 tons of steel, a year-on-year decrease of 14.6%. Among them, Japan's export volume of ordinary steel is 1.872 million tons, down 5.9% year-on-year; the import volume of ordinary steel is 415000 tons, down 6.2% year-on-year, the first year-on-year decline in four months.
In terms of the main types of export steel products, Japan exported 188000 tons of galvanized steel plate in October, a year-on-year decrease of 18.2%; 146000 tons of cold-rolled broadband steel, a year-on-year decrease of 39.4%; 948000 tons of hot-rolled broadband steel, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%; 256000 tons of thick plate, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%.
From the perspective of export destination, Japan exported 461000 tons of steel to South Korea in October, a year-on-year decrease of 4.2%; 436000 tons of steel to China, a year-on-year decrease of 14.2%; 409000 tons of steel to Thailand, a year-on-year decrease of 24.6%, a year-on-year decrease for six consecutive months; 105000 tons of steel to the United States, a year-on-year decrease of 26.1%.
In terms of the main types of imported steel products, Japan imported 138000 tons of hot-rolled wide strip steel in October, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%; 81000 tons of galvanized steel plate, a year-on-year decrease of 4.5%; 72000 tons of cold-rolled wide strip steel, a year-on-year decrease of 19.2%; and 44000 tons of thick plate, a year-on-year increase of 19.7%.
In terms of import sources, Japan imported 270000 tons of steel from South Korea in October, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%; and 46000 tons of steel from mainland China, a year-on-year decrease of 10.5%.
