Steel grades of ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plate

Shipbuilding steel plate refers to the hot rolled steel plate produced in accordance with the requirements of classification society's construction specifications for the manufacture of ship structure. According to the minimum yield point, ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plate can be divided into general strength shipbuilding steel and high strength shipbuilding steel.

The general strength ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plate is divided into four quality grades: A, B, D and E (i.e. ASTM A131 grade A, ASTM A131 grade B, ASTM A131 grade D and ASTM A131 grade E). The yield strength of these four grades is same and not less than 235Mpa. And the tensile strength is 400-520Mpa, but the impact energy at different temperatures is different.

The high strength ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plate is divided into three strength grades and four quality grades. According to the minimum yield strength of high strength ASTM A131 shipbuilding steel plate, each strength grade is divided into A, D, E and F 4 levels according to its impact toughness. The yield strength of A32, D32, E32 and F32 is not less than 315Mpa, and the tensile strength is 440-570Mpa. A, D, E and F represent the impact toughness that can be achieved under 0 °, - 20 °, - 40 °, - 60 ° respectively. The yield strength of A36, D36, E36 and F36 is not less than 355Mpa, and the tensile strength is 490-620Mpa. The yield strength of A40, D40, E40 and F40 is not less than 390Mpa, and the tensile strength is 510-660Mpa.
