Steel prices in South Africa rose 4.8% in February from January

According to the latest data released by the South African Bureau of Statistics, the producer price index (PPI) of the country's basic steel industry rose by 4.8% in February from January and 27.3% from February 2020.

Meanwhile, in January this year, the producer price index of South Africa's basic steel exports increased by 7.1% over December and 26.1% over the same period in 2020; the price index of export steel products increased by 3.4% and 13.3% over the same period last year. In addition, the producer price index (PPI) of imported base metals in South Africa fell 1.1% month on month and 5.4% year on year in January this year.
