US steel import license applications decreased sharply in August
According to the latest SIMA report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the number of US steel import license applications decreased sharply in August this year.
According to the data of the U.S. Department of Commerce, in August 2020, the total number of steel import license applications was 1.394 million short tons, a significant decrease of about 31% compared with the 2.06 million short tons recorded in July, and a sharp drop of 48.4% compared with the final steel import volume of 2.703 million short tons recorded in July 2020.
In August, the permitted import volume of finished steel products was 1.231 million short tons, 10.8% lower than the final import number of 1.38 million short tons in July. It is reported that in August, the number of licenses for electrolytic galvanized sheet and strip increased by 139% on a month on month basis, and the import license of steel sheet pile and steel pipe of fixed length also increased by 64% and 37% respectively.
