A573 Grade 70 is a carbon‑manganese‑silicon structural steel plate produced using fine‑grain practice to provide enhanced notch toughness at atmospheric temperatures.
It is used in welded structures, storage tanks, building components, and engineering frames requiring higher strength and reliable ductility.
The grade offers stable welding performance and uniform mechanical behavior across different thickness ranges.
Chemical Composition (ASTM A573/A573M)
Carbon: ≤ 0.27%
Manganese: 0.85–1.20% (may increase to 1.50% when carbon is reduced)
Silicon: 0.15–0.40%
Phosphorus: ≤ 0.03%
Sulfur: ≤ 0.03%
Aluminum (total): ≥ 0.020% (fine‑grain practice)
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength: 485–620 MPa
Yield Strength: ≥ 260 MPa
Elongation:
≥ 18% (200 mm gauge length)
≥ 22% (50 mm gauge length)
